I started working out with Maria in 2010 after going a few years without a regular workout routine. I had gained a lot of weight and didn’t really realize it. I weighed 185 lbs. which was the top end for me. I felt sluggish, tired all the time and generally not well. I was constantly pulling my lower back and in pain for days. I generally didn’t eat very well. I spent a lot of time in the office and figured if you worked hard at work you had to feel like crap. I knew if I hired Maria and scheduled the time I would force myself to get back in shape.
At the beginning, it was hard!
When we started training together 3x/week every exercise was very difficult and not very fun. Soreness and stiffness was a common thing for a couple of months. Feeling nauseated was also a part of deal for a while. I felt like I couldn’t even breath. I struggled to eat properly even with Maria’s guidance.
Fast forward 4 years.
I’ve lost 35 lbs. I still train with Maria 3x/week and look forward to every session. Two mornings of strength training and one morning of running. While Maria keeps the training challenging, it is now mentally and physically easier and fun and just a part of my day. I’ve never felt physically better in my life. I’m now rarely tired during the day and sleep better at night. I eat mainly proteins and vegetables without even thinking about it. A few meals per week I eat whatever the heck I want and it doesn’t matter (cheeseburger/fries, pizza, etc.) The most significant area of my life that’s improved is the ability to move easily and actively play with the kids at the beach. I don’t just lay on the sand and feel like I’m going to fall asleep – I’m standing/moving/running/swimming with them and feel great the whole time. Pushing the beach junk up the hill is no longer a big deal. I can lift heavy things (including the kids) without straining or pulling my back.
